We’ve been making bespoke wooden sheep and goat shelters for over 20 years. With the UK’s increase in more extreme weather patterns, providing shelter from the elements for livestock has become of increasing importance. Not only do wooden shelters and housing provide protection from the wind and rain, they also provide an essential haven from the baking hot sun and a space to carry out essential husbandry tasks.
It’s not incredibly easy for farmers to provide shelter for hundreds of sheep in an open field and the sheep will often huddle together under a hedge or behind stone walls to get out of the elements. Luckily, they have their amazing fleeces to keep them warm but for a handful of sheep it is much easier to provide them a shelter or shed in the field so that they can cosy up in luxury.
Our sheep and goat shelters are made out of really lovely quality rounded cornered framework to give a smooth finish and thick 20mm tongue and groove cladding to make them exceptionally sturdy. Our smallest standard size of sheep shelter is an 8’ x 6’ shelter. This size is suitable to provide shelter for 3-4 sheep or goats. Our sheep shelters have an off centre opening to enable the animals to seek maximum protection behind the wooden return. We offer many adaptations on our sheep and goat shelters from metal towing skids, wooden floors and light panels in the roof to mention a few. All our buildings are made onsite on our family farm in Shropshire ensuring we can offer a fully bespoke service often manufacturing shelters larger than our standard sizes.
Many moons ago we ran an open farm with a farm shop selling homemade ice cream, cheese and yoghurt. We had many animals for visitors to come and see and learn about farm life. As part of the growing menagerie, Mum and Dad introduced Andrew, Arnold, Jill (Pygmy goats), Naomi and Salomi (Angora goats). It’s fair to say the goats made short work of escaping their field and were soon free ranging the farm getting into plenty of mischief. One of mum’s favourite memories of the pygmy goats was when they appeared from nowhere springing around a corner, jumped on top of an ice cream buyer’s car and sprang off again, luckily no damage caused. However we quickly learnt that goats were expert Houdinis and really needed some strong fencing, a solid shelter or goat shed and plenty of distractions to keep them busy. If only we had known that 15 years later we would be making sheep and goat buildings for this very purpose. We have made all sorts of structures over the years, goat houses for goats to walk on the roof and even goat seesaws.
